Coop Adds Second Dryer

In 2009-10, Wheaton Dumont Coop Elevator undertook a major overhaul of its grain elevator in Wheaton, MN (320-563-8152), adding more than 2 million bushels of storage and replacing much of the grain handling equipment.

Longevity Breeds Loyalty

After 35 years of service, managers at McCune Farmers Union Coop Association, a single-location operation at McCune, KS (620-632-4226), were ready to replace their 1,800-bph Delux tower dryer.

Open for Harvest

John Pruss, general manager at United Farmers Mercantile Coop(UFMC) in Red Oak, IA (712-623-5453), would be the first to admit that weather during fall harvest in south-western Iowa isn’t always conductive to heavy grain dryer usage. “We really only have a good drying year once every six or seven years,” he says.

A Foundation Fit

Sooner or later, every piece of equipment at a grain elevator needs to be retired, and in 2013, it was past due for the continuous-flow dryer at FC Cooperative‘s branch elevator at Afton, IA (641-347-8428).

A Bigger Replacement

When a fire destroyed an old 800-bph grain dryer at LaBolt Farmers Grain Co. in South Shore, SD (605-765-4220), in early 2020, , the cooperative had the chance not only to replace it but boost dryer capacity, as well, at the branch elevator in far eastern South Dakota.

Old Friend, New Face

In July, 2012, Door County Cooperative, Surgeon Bay, WI, needed to replace the 3,000 bps grain dryer at its Shirley Feed Mill at De Pere, WI. Dairy customers needed feed, and an above average corn harvest was ready to be harvested in September.

New Dryer Caps a Lengthy Expansion Project

January/February 2000 Grain Journal

The Selby, SD, Northern Plains Cooperative elevator, a division of Cenex Harvest States, in 1998 endured a year without a grain dryer of its own, thanks to a construction project that added 360,000 bushels worth of grain storage in a “six-pack” of slipform concrete tanks.

Things are going better this year, says Manager Pat Peterson. The additional storage will be helpful in landing a 108-car rail spot on the Burlington Northern Santa […]

When Snider’s Elevator Inc., Lemasters, PA, moved to its present Lemar Road location in 1987, there were already two old grain dryers on the site. While both worked reasonably well, their combined capacity was only 500 to 700 bph at a 5-point removal level.

CoOp Adds Dryers in Two States

January/February 2005 Grain Journal

The three new Delux grain dryers installed at two Wheaton Dumont Cooperative Elevator locations in 2004 received a thorough workout during the fall.

“We’ve had a tremendous amount of rain since harvest began around Oct. 1,” says General Manager Orval Kohls. “We’re still taking in corn and soybeans (early December). The fields have been so wet recently that combines have been getting stuck. The corn has been fairly wet. We took in a lot at 25% moisture, though […]
